Flaws in the laws Subtitle: Common misconceptions regarding what a Florida Dental hygienist can/ cannot do in the state of Florida. 1. Engage in discussion regarding real world scenarios in which a Florida dental hygienist may face in a clinical setting. 2. Distinguish between legal scopes of practice under general, direct and indirect supervision levels for both private practice and access to care dental hygienist scopes. 3. Recognize and apply knowledge confidently in a clinical practice setting for compliance with most recent and updated Florida dental hygiene laws as regulated by the Florida Board of Dentistry. 4. Discover the most recent Florida Law changes as of July 1, 2023. Be the Change ! 1. An outline of how Florida Dental Hygienists and lobbyists work together to promote expansion of the dental hygiene scope of practice. 2. Discover the importance of the Fl dental hygienist's contribution to access to care. 3. Identify the logistics and barriers for expansion of scope such as : lasers in perio therapy, botox in the dental clinical setting and dental therapists. 4. Provide comprehensive discussion on current Florida dental hygiene legislative updates. |

4CE: Periodontal Staging and Grading/ Domestic Violence.
Periodontal Staging and Grading with Overview and Case Studies.
Speaker: Dr. Cosgrove, DMD
Reviewing the staging and grading parameters and guidelines as well as grey areas within the current periodontal classification.
Objectives:
Classify the severity and extent of the disease based on the measurable amount of destroyed or damaged tissue as a result of periodontitis.
Assess specific factors that may attribute to the complexity of long-term case management and risk for progression.
The second half of the presentation will be dedicated to case studies to get some practice in and answer any questions
Domestic Violence Awareness for Dental Professionals
Speaker: Devin Pappas
This course will explain what domestic violence is, different types of domestic violence, human trafficking awareness, cues to look for from reception desk to cleaning or treatment, how to initiate conversations, mandatory reporting of abuse, and bringing awareness that dental professionals can help save lives by their observations and conversations.
